 Share Charters

On a share charter we target smaller game, increasing the chance of every angler catching a fish.  Shared charters, also known as walk a boards, open charters, per person charters, cattle boats or party boats are four hours long and depart at 7:30am or 12 noon.

Ono, mahi mahi, yellowfin, skipjack tunas and spearfish are a common catch.  Every day is different and your captain will inform you of what the recent catches have been and what we should realistically expect the day of your trip. There is always the chance that a big marlin will bite so be prepared.  We take 4* to 8 anglers, everyone is assigned a rod and your position is rotated throughout the trip.  We usually troll from the harbor with all lines out, one for every angler.  Once we get to a buoy, floater or another floating structure, the best most efficient way to fish the area is to reduce down to two bait rods. At this point, we go by numbers until everyone catches a small tuna.  Some days everyone catches, some days not.  Then, we put all the lines back in the water and proceed to troll for the rest of the time heading back to the harbor. Please note that trolling means rods sit in a holder until a fish is on.  At that time you will handle the rod.  We do not cast or hold the rods until a fish is on.  Riders may come along to take pictures, whale watch, take in the sun or share the rod with your fisherman.

A single angler will be $116.81 and a single rider will be $63.22 including state and harbor taxes.

Private Charters

We can take up to 18 passengers in your private group on 4, 6 or 8 hour fishing trips.

On a private charter we will target whatever species you desire.  We offer bottom fishing to big game fishing and will go for that fish of a lifetime if you choose  including our world famous Pacific Blue Marlin…..  Our boats largest blue marlin is 812 pounds and we are always looking to break that record.  Striped marlin during the winter can also be fun. We currently hold the Hawaii State Record at 212 pounds. The cost of the charter depends on your guest count, whether fishing or not.

How To Book

Fill out our online reservation form, email us at seawife@hawaii.rr.com or call us at 808-329-1806. We will book your trip by taking down your name, mobile number you will be bringing with you to Kona, where you are staying and a credit card number, expiration date and billing zip code to hold your reservation as we have a 24 hour policy of cancellation for share charters and 48 hour policy of cancellation for private charters.   (see our Cancellation Policies).  We do not charge a deposit to your card. Upon check in before departure, payment is due in full; you may change your method of payment, and/or use several forms of payment for one reservation.

Once Your Reservation Is Confirmed

Please check in at least 15 minutes prior the departure time. This will give the captain enough time to greet you and give his rundown and required safety speech. You can also check out our selection of Sea Wife II t-shirts and hats for sale.

We depart from The Fuel Dock in Honokohau Harbor, which is 2 ½ miles north of Kailua-Kona or 5 miles south of the Kona airport on Highway 19. When you turn into the harbor, stay on that road heading straight for the ocean. This will keep you on the left side of the harbor. Near the end, you will see a two-story building with a red roof and a gas station to the right. Park in the lot and proceed to our office on the second floor following the yellow Sea Wife II Charters sign. After checking in, you will be directed to the boat on the dock below. Our GPS address is 74-381 Kealakehe Parkway 96740. You can also view and print a map on this website.

We provide complimentary bottled water and light dry snacks. For your convenience, the deli and store on the ground floor opens at 6am daily. Please bring any other food and drinks you may want, beer is allowed. We have coolers with ice for you onboard. We request no beverages in glass bottles as broken glass can be dangerous. No dark-soled shoes as they mark up the deck and are very hard to remove. Wear socks or go barefoot if these are all you have please. No bananas allowed on the boat as they are considered bad luck for fishermen. If you use spray on sunscreen, please apply it before boarding as the mist will make our boat and gear slippery.

We are a “keep your catch” boat.  This means all boated fish will be cut up, bagged and shared with everyone onboard that would like to have some of the catch.   This works especially well if not everyone was fortunate enough to reel in their own.  Your crew does this onboard.  The Sea Wife II rarely sells a fish.  Most boats sell their catch as additional income to the captain and crew but we would rather have happy customers that return year after year.  Various sized coolers are available for purchase in our office and the store downstairs sells ice.

Gratuities are not included in the charter prices. Please consider that it is customary in Hawaii to tip the crew of your charter fishing boat on a scale similar to a restaurant. You may add crew gratuities to your credit card at check in or a Tip Bucket is located on the boat as your crew’s hands will hopefully be dirty from filleting your catch.

Customer Cancellation Policy

You may be charged a cancellation fee if your reservation is not cancelled more than 24 hours in advance for a share charter or 48 hours in advance for a private charter if we do not have enough time to resell your reserved space. You will be charged a cancellation fee if you simply do not show up for the trip without calling.

SEA WIFE II CANCELLATION POLICY

*If we end up not having a minimum of four anglers booked for a shared charter, the trip may be cancelled.  This can happen during the slower season or when others booked cancel or reschedule at the last minute.  We will contact you by phone the night before the trip by 6:00 pm.
